You're going to hear "no" when you knock on that door.
"They weren't planning on buying pest control today," John Ely says of door-knocking campaigns. "That's the challenge of it."
But for Ely, it's that knock on one door, and being told "I'm not interested," that led to another door opening for his career.
"At the end of the day, her husband pulls up in his pest control truck coming home from work," Ely says. "He asked how I was doing, and I told him my success for the day.
"Then why don't you do your own company?"
Ely decided to do just that, opening ProCare Pest Services in Atlanta, GA.
Ely shares his door-to-door sales insights, how he got started with his own company and what he has learned along the way with host Amanda Salvatore on an episode of the Pest in Class podcast. Among their discussion points:
[08:16]: The importance of developing your own sales style
[19:28]: John’s struggles and how he overcame them
[25:31]: Why a good sales and training process is paramount
[33:41]: John’s advice to business owners facing adversity
