$100,000

Reduced open invoices from over $100,000 to less than $30,000

$80k

Eliminated an estimated $80k of payroll in administrative processes

Frustrated with their client-server-based software, EnSec was ready for a new technology solution to help modernize their operation.

About The Company

Founded in 1997, EnSec Pest & Lawn has proudly served communities across Alabama and Florida with residential pest and lawn care services for over 20 years. Their integrated services and focus on environmentally friendly methods set itself apart from other service providers in the area, making them the go-to choice for customers looking to go green. They currently have 30 technicians, 12 office staff, and three sales reps across four locations.

The Challenge

After years of use, EnSec’s operations software system was beginning to show its age, leading to wasted hours and frustrating manual processes. The company was particularly annoyed with their field data collection method, where office personnel would send electronic work orders to technicians in the field who would then complete the forms and email them back to the office. Two dedicated employees would then manually enter the information back into the database. This long, hands-on process would routinely delay their responses to the property owner by two to three days, which was limiting EnSec’s ability to grow and serve additional customers.

Another frustration was their payment collection method. At one point, a lack of automation features led to over $100,000 in outstanding balances. Scheduling, routing, reporting, and marketing were also areas they recognized had room for improvement. Overall, they were quickly outgrowing their software and knew it was time to move on to something new.

The Solution

Prior to shopping for new software, Cliff Killingsworth, Manager and Certified Pest Control Operator at EnSec, worked alongside several key employees to create a value chart with a wish list of features they wanted to see in their new solution. At the top of the list was better field data collection, and improved automation for billing among other features.

This search for new technology led Cliff to a pest control convention where he met FieldRoutes (formerly PestRoutes) Founder, Jared Green. After meeting with Jared, Cliff became intrigued by the Cloud-based nature of the software and was encouraged by the new automation it could bring to EnSec’s operations. After researching several options, they decided to move forward with FieldRoutes in February 2014.

The Impact

Taking advantage of the FieldRoutes mobile app, EnSec now enjoys a much more efficient field data collection process. This time-savings has enabled them to move employees from mundane data entry positions to more impactful areas of the business, such as sales and quality control. “It was easily 80 grand worth of payroll a year in administrative processes eliminated,” said Cliff.

“We definitely made big improvements in our accounts receivable in making the switch,” continued Cliff. Using the FieldRoutes automation features, EnSec is now able to manage all four branches with one Accounts Receivable Manger and has successfully reduced open invoices from over $100,000 to less than $30,000. The scheduling and route optimization tools have added even more efficiencies to their processes, and the enhanced reporting has made it easier to make accurate forecasts.

After using the FieldRoutes™ Operations Suite for a few years, EnSec decided to add the FieldRoutes™ Marketing Suite to help consolidate their online marketing activities. Previously, they had used online lead generation services, which were disconnected and expensive. There was also some overlap between services, which further complicated matters.

“We’re very pleased to have something integrate right to what matters, which is our customer management software,” said Cliff. “The process of getting the leads has improved, the quality of the leads improved, and it’s just much more efficient. The integration to get web leads right off the webpage and into FieldRoutes has helped us respond quickly.” In a business where the first company to respond usually wins the business, this new expedited process has dramatically improved their sales and marketing activities.

Since implementing FieldRoutes, EnSec has:

  • Consolidated billing and collections activities for all four office locations

  • Reduced open invoices from over $100,000 to less than $30,000

  • Eliminated an estimated $80k of payroll in administrative processes

  • Improved the quality of online sales leads

“We were happy to move to a hosted solution and have less computer management to handle ourselves. We love the route optimization. Your reporting has been great. And the ability to automate administrative processes is a very nice feature.”
